Get off your privileged high horse and eat a god damn steak. Things you can’t control that are a fact of the world:
- Third world countries
- Food deserts
- Meat addiction
- Vegetable allergies
- Poverty
- Meat tastes good
You can’t explain that.
Third world…
“Tl;dr” ignorant fuck. I’m not fucking trying to shame you, I just responded to a post you tagged as vegan. Don’t be rude when I’m being nice.
“biased source” just because I’m vegan doesn’t mean that my opinions on veganism are invalid. There was a time in my life, oh not even that long ago (which I guess is cause for concern as well), that I fucking ate meat and drank dairy and ate way too many eggs and thought that was cool. But after listening to people, reading, doing independent research…oh, you know, becoming educated…I decided to be vegan.
And that “I don’t even do this 100%” comment is WAY off-base…instead of trying to shove THE FACTS (not my beliefs, mind you, I do not believe that animals are tortured and slaughtered, that the dairy/eggs/meat industries are corrupt, that slaughter houses abuse humans, that those industries contribute tons of pollution…those are all facts), I was trying to explain that I’m just a normal person, not one of these crazy vegan stereotypes you are trying to paint me as.
You claim you “believe in freedom.” But not for non-human animals. Or for the immigrant workers abused by the meatpacking industry, or for the impoverished working in those factories. Cool.
“Don’t shove your beliefs down my throat, or I’ll shove a steak down yours.” Sure, this is probably some attempt at ironic humor, but nevertheless, you’re still a hypocrite.
So kudos to you, you get your meat from one of the “nice” places. Probably those cows just die naturally, right? Regardless, we’re in agreement that the current mainstream methods of housing and killing animals is wrong. Instead of fighting against people like me (and there are more vegans like me than like this crazy stereotype), why don’t you recognize we have a common goal and work together?
I don’t know why I’m arguing this though, I just checked our your blog and you’re just another internet troll.
Another cute graphic

Someone tipped me on this lovely restaurant in Nashville. It looks absolutely divine.
And here is a great link for some other great vegan eats in Nashville.
This is so freaking cute and would look great as decor

Third world countries: I am not ignoring my privilege to live in a developed country where my next meal is not in question. I am not even telling those in poverty in my country (USA) to strain their already diminished resources for the sake of veganism. But those who are able, which is most of this fucking country and like 95% of the people on tumblr, to try it. Myths a) there are things you need that you can only get from milk, dairy, and meat. B) being vegan is expensive…in fact, veggies are fucking cheap. Yes, replacement products aren’t cheap (with the exception of non-utter milks), but regardless of being vegan or omni or whatever, YOU SHOULD NOT BE EATING CHEAP MEAT!!! That shit is full of antibiotics, diseases, and gross shit! Watch Food Inc (a non-vegan film) or any of the other various food documentaries! C) a vegan diet is very restrictive. Lies. I eat WAY better and way more varied than I did before. I enjoy many of the same foods, just tweaked. D) it’s hard to be vegan. Okay, this one isn’t completely untrue, but with a little planning, learning how to read labels (which you should already fucking do), and a willingness to learn, anyone can do it. Also, we waste so many food resources feeding cattle; it takes 16 lbs of grain to produce 1 lb of meat and even 5 lbs of grain to produce 1 lb of seafood. It would be more efficient (less costly) to feed the people that grain than the animals as 16 lbs of grain feeds way more people than 1 lb of meat. So really, veganism is part of the answer to ending world hunger.
Food deserts: what do you mean by this? First off, are these food deserts places with no grocery stores and only McDonald’s? That sounds horrible; we should really alert the country to get these people some damn options. But that being said, if you have a grocery store, you can fucking eat vegan. Secondly, food deserts wouldn’t exist if there was a need for vegan options in the community. SO FUCKING BE VEGAN AND DEMAND SOME DELISH FOOD FROM YOUR FAV RESTAURANTS. Plus, many chains have vegan options, just google them.
Meat addiction: okay, I’m sure you realize this, but addiction is bad. Addiction ruins lives. People spend lots of money to help end addiction. So I think this one is pretty self-explanatory.
Vegetable allergies: This I just don’t understand. Are you allergic to ALL vegetables? If you can’t eat ANY veggies and only meat and dairy, you are going to have serious health issues. And I don’t think people are going to push veganism on the one person this situation applies to. Secondly, I know someone who is soy-intolerant, gluten-intolerant, and vegan…which is fucking badass.
Poverty: addressed above, but also, we should be outraged at the government’s subsidizing low quality/high calorie/corn and GMO soy food to make it cheaper (again I’ll source Food Inc, just because it’s not vegan propaganda so it’s a good neutral source) than good, whole foods therefore causing health problems such as diabetes and obesity. Veganism is a great political tool to help reform the food industry and demand higher quality foods for all.
Meat tastes good: this point cannot be argued with; you cannot make someone dislike or like something like that. But let me tell you this: I used to love meat, like could’ve lived off of chickfila and was the person who cooked the turkey (all of the food actually) at Thanksgiving. I went straight from being a carnist to veganism (for my health, not because I love baby chickens and want a pig as a pet and stuff like that), and somewhere along the line, I lost my appetite for meat. I still crave a spicy chicken sandwich mind you, but I also started caring about the ethical reasons for veganism and that, along with the quality of fast food, keep me from ordering a #3 with a diet lemonade and polynesian sauce.
I’m not saying wake up tomorrow and be 100% vegan (I’m still working on it) and hate yourself when you slip up an have a cube of cheese or find out that bread had eggs in it, but at least get education and try. You don’t have to get into PETA politics (I’m not) or throw paint on people wearing fur or scream at people enjoying a hamburger, you can make up your own philosophies, but you gotta start somewhere.
:)
delicious hard cashew cheese! (that will be enjoyed on pizza & with crackers in the next few days).
i adapted this from the nutty pepperjack recipe from the complete guide to vegan food substitutions by steen & newman, omiting the jalapenos & tinkering with the nutritional yeast and agar ratios.
a few weeks ago i made a smoked paprika soft tofu cheese that was so delicious spread on sandwiches that i didn’t get to take a picture! if you’re thinking of making cashew cheese i strongly suggest you make it a smoked paprika cashew cheese! or maybe macadamia cheese? almond cheese? so many possibilities.
Definitely going to start messing around with making vegan cheese!
